Becoming an actuary was a natural choice for someone "good at maths" but it has been so much more.
My actuarial life has been spent at Aon, mainly in the UK, briefly in Canada. It began crunching numbers. I still love Excel! But it has become something far wider. Most recently helpingpension schemesmanage cyber risk, exploring delegation of actuarial decisions to streamline governance, and creating a model for advising sole trustees.
As President of the Society of Pension Professional I've spent 2019 reviewing our structure, hiring our first CEO, and refreshing how we communicate with, and provide value to, members. Meeting people I wouldn't normally meet and learning more from non actuaries has been eye-opening.
When I'm not at work I'm a governor at two schools (one for each child), amateur vegetable-grower, occasional blogger, more occasional runner, Lego companion to my son and cake-taster for my daughter.
