“I am currently actuarial lead in Aviva’s Global GI and AIL Actuarial Function and also Chief Risk Actuary for Aviva Re. Highlights in this role to date, beyond working with a talented range of colleagues, are establishing an internal independent reserve review process and embedding the Aviva Boardgame club.
Somewhat overcompensating for my lack of a university degree, I am a fellow of both the IFoA and the CII, as well as a Certified Enterprise Risk Actuary. I was also a member of the GIRO organising committee and have spoken at GIRO and various other events and conferences.
Prior to Aviva, I had a 20 year consultancy career covering all areas of actuarial science. For ten of those years I wrote an annual paper on the motor insurance market which led to me being interviewed or quoted by most UK newspapers as well as the insurance press. I was also once interviewed on live TV in the Sky Sports studio as an actuary, discussing football injuries.
I am currently putting my passion for machine learning to good use while on parental leave by building ever more complex models to predict how long my newborn son will sleep at night.”
