I’m a Partner at LCP and lead our insurance consulting practice. I work across all areas of general insurance actuarial work. I’m also a Chief Actuary and an Independent Non-Executive Director (not for the same insurer!).
I’m passionate about helping everyone to have opportunities to grow in their career and to play to their strengths, as part of an inclusive and diverse team. I love supporting people to drive forward initiatives and make a real difference, regardless of their level of experience. I’m a strong believer that, to be successful actuaries, we need to keep a broad perspective, and work collaboratively with wider disciplines both within and outside the actuarial profession – for example, bringing together actuaries, software developers and data scientists.
Whilst the 2020 pandemic and lock-down has had its challenges, it has also been an exciting year for actuarial work. A particular highlight for me has been my involvement in the launch of LCP InsurSight – LCP’s data analytics platform for non-life insurers. We launched InsurSight in April 2020 and it is already licensed by some of the largest London Market and UK personal lines insurers to assess over £70bn of reserves. It’s been an exciting journey – from my early discussions with clients around “there must be a better way for reserving”, through to the realisation of a unique product.
Other interesting projects during 2020 include understanding and responding to the impact of COVID-19 in my role as Chief Actuary, and supporting clients with restructuring their business following Brexit. I enjoy presenting regularly on actuarial topics both in the UK and internationally, and hosting roundtable discussions on insurance hot topics.
Outside work, I have a young family, so I’ve done plenty of home schooling this year. A definite favourite has been science “projects” and coding – from launching balloon rockets, to building our own dance mat computer game.
